GAME THREE: A RESURGENT VROMAN OR THE BROOM?
Published on April 14, 2012
IT’S either Jackson Vroman steps up big time or B-Meg gets to use the broom on Barangay Ginebra.
Such is the scenario as the Llamados go for a 3-0 sweep of the Gin Kings in the PBA Commissioners
Cup semifinals series Sunday night at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.
The Llamados set up themselves for a shutout of the Gin Kings when they repeated with a close 83-77
win in Game Two last Friday. B-Meg took the series opener quite convincingly, 82-67 in Antipolo City
last Wednesday.
Despite prospects of a sweep, B-Meg coach Tim Cone does not want his wards to feel overconfident as
he is fully aware of Barangay Gienbra’s capability to come back and live up to its billing as a
never-say-die team.
Barangay Ginebra continued to miss the services of leading scorer Mark Caguioa who is out due to a
fractured orbital eye socket sustained following a fall during the playoff between the Gin Kings
and the Llamados for the second automatic semis seat three Fridays ago.
Caguioa, who showed up in playing jersey last Friday, is still a doubtful starter as he is still
seeing double at times.
Despite his absence, the Gin Kings almost knotted the series were it not for the lackluster
performance of Vroman in the endgame. On several occasions, Vroman opted to pass the ball despite
being close to the hoop instead of taking the shot.
In game Two, Vroman scored six points in the first quarter but added only two points each in the
third and fourth period. He still finished with 11 rebounds, three assists, two steals and four
blocked shots.
For the Gin Kings to be able to avert another loss and a painful vacation, vroman should come up
with more significant numbers.
And the rest of the Gin kings should also contribute their fair share.
In Game Two, Nino Canaleta regained his old deadly form and finished with 19 points. Likewise, Mike
Cortez got his game going and tallied 17.
Denzel Bowles, this early a frontrunner for Best Import honors, led the Llamados with 21 points on
top of 15 rebounds, five assists, a steal and two blocked shots.
Two-time Most Valuable Player James Yap broke out of a scoring slump and fired 16 points. Peter June
Simon added 15 while Marc Pingris and Josh Urbiztondo wound up with 12 each.
While Cone said that obviously they would go for a sweep, he mused, “Do I think it’s over? Are
you kidding me? It takes a special effort to get up 2-0. To get up 3-0 is special effort times
two!”
But his wards are capable of special effort times two. In Game two, the Llamados outrebounded the
Gin Kings, 51-40 which only meant to show that they wanted the ball more.
Expected to help Bowles and Pingris in manning the boards are Joe DeVance, Rafi reavis and Yancy de
Ocampo who will go up against the likes of Kerby Raymundo, Billy Mamaril and Willy Wilson.
“A team that is adjusting will have the advantage,” said Cone of Barangay Ginebra which will
make more adjustments to offset the continued absence of Caguioa. “Barangay Ginebra has toughened
up and they come up strong when they get behind.”
Should B-Meg succeed in closing it out Sunday night, the Llamados will face the winner of the Talk N
Text-Barako Bull in the best-of-seven series for the championship. (BP)

Re: GAME THREE: A RESURGENT VROMAN OR THE BROOM?
Vroman will play a big role kapag ganitong playoff time and since the number one scorer of the team among locals is absent he must take charge in the offensive end.Dapat maging offensive minded sya at hindi yung puro pasa na lang.Tapos watch out sya sa mga cheap fouls na pwede nyang iwasan and be more focus on the game and avoid to much complaining with the refs.Pabayaan na lang nya yun sa coach na sila ang magreklamo at hindi ang mga players.

Re: GAME THREE: A RESURGENT VROMAN OR THE BROOM?
