Manila Clasico Game Three: B-MEG goes for kill against Ginebra

B-MEG seeks the clincher against beleaguered Barangay Ginebra in Game Three of their PBA Commissioner’s Cup semifinals series Sunday at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.
The Llamados seek a sweep in the series with a victory in their 6 p.m. encounter.
And history favors B-MEG as 36 out of 39 teams which took a 2-0 lead in a best-of-five series have gone on to win it.
But Llamados coach Tim Cone said it’s not yet time to celebrate as the series is far from over.
“We’ll definitely go for it,” said Cone, who is eyeing his 24th finals appearance while trying to lead B-MEG to its 22nd championship stint, ninth in an import-flavored tournament.
B-MEG grabbed a commanding 2-0 lead last Friday after dismantling an undermanned Ginebra five 83-77, behind another solid showing of import Denzel Bowles.
He again outplayed Ginebra reinforcement Jackson Vroman. Bowles finished with 21 points, 15 rebounds and five assists, while Vroman matched his Game One output with just 10 points, going 3-of-10 from the field.
Llamados locals also contributed big in Game Two with James Yap hitting 16 points, PJ Simon adding 14 and Josh Urbiztondo and Marc Pinrgis scoring 12.
Cone said he’s wary of KG Canaleta from the Ginebra side as the former slam dunk champion hit a couple of three-pointers that kept the Kings in the game.
“We recognized it and not let him get going,” said Cone of Canaleta who finished with a team-high 19 points for Ginebra in Game Two.
The Kings again missed the services of Mark Caguioa though he sat on the bench to cheer his teammates.
Ginebra was the last team to overcome a 0-2 deficit in a best-of-five series against Talk ‘N Text in 2009-10 quarterfinals.
But Gin Kings coach Siot Tanquingcen needs a better performance from Vroman to have a chance of avoiding a sweep and forcing Game Four, which will be played on Tuesday if necessary.
