B-MEG seeks a follow up on its huge win against Barangay Ginebra as it eyes a 2-0 lead in their best-of-five semifinal series in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Friday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
The Llamados and the Gin Kings square off at 6:45 p.m. with B-MEG anticipating a better performance from its semifinal foe.
“Following up a win is always tough part about a series,” said Llamados coach Tim Cone, whose wards used a strong second half to thump a listless Ginebra five en route to an 82-67 win.
“We’ll try to rely on the momentum we’ve established to see if we can put another good game tomorrow.”
After a tight first half, B-MEG’s defense worked perfectly for them as the Kings shot miserably in the last 24 minutes of the game.
Jackson Vroman and Rob Labagala were the top scorers for Ginebra with just 10 points apiece. The team shot 35% from the field (24-of-68).
Denzel Bowles won his personal battle against Vroman as he top-scored for B-MEG with 21 points on an efficient 8-of-15 shooting. He also hauled down 10 rebounds.
Vroman was 4-of-12 from the field and 2-of-7 from the free throw line, and had seven of the team’s 19 turnovers.
The Kings badly missed the services of Mark Caguioa, who has a serious right eye injury and according to reports could be out for the series.
But Cone said Ginebra is used to this situation, which is why the Llamados can’t take them for granted in Game Two.
“We know Ginebra’s character. We know the challenge is great,” he said.
