Ginebra Kings went guns ablaze. Jackson
Vroman was a force while the backcourt tandem of Mike Cortez and Jayjay Helterbrand and the forward crew of Willy Wilson and Rudy Hatfield were
instrumental in leading the Kings in the opening salvo, 21 to 8.
Then the B-Meg Llamados went on a second quarter
rampage by scoring 25 points in the second quarter as the Kings went cold with
eight.
The Kings went tumbling
down afterwards.
The contest ended with an 82 to 67 win for the Llamados –
claiming Game One of the their Best-of-five
series.
If this is an indication of
things to come… then the Kings are toast.
Here are the key factors
that Ginebra needs to accomplish if they want to even the series:
STEP UP
The Kings scored 21 points
in two quarters which led to B-Meg’s tear. Isn’t Ginebra a team filled with past
and present superstars? This is the problem when you bench star players and
convert them to role players. In some ways, you know Ginebra had it bad when
your leading scorer is Rob Labagala who just had ten points which is the same
output as their import.
REBOUNDS
B-Meg mauled the Gins on
the boards with a whopping 52 rebounds compared to Ginebra’s 38. Usual suspects
Denzel Bowles and Marc Pingris had
their normal load but what about JC
Intal, Peter June Simon, and Josh Urbiztondo who had five caroms and more?
For the Kings they had the loss coming if their key rebounder aside from Vroman
is Jayjay Helterbrand. Aside from these two, only Enrico Villanueva had five boards. What the hell happened to Rudy
Hatfield and Kerby Raymundo??
STEP UP PART TWO
Man I’m critical about
this. Can’t you see? I mean there is a reason why Ginebra traded for Kerby
Raymundo. Kerby is a beast of a presence and despite being turnover prone, this
is a stat you get because when he was still in B-Meg/Purefoods, the ball always travel in his way. So why the hell
are they using him for ten minutes? How can Kerby exalt his revenge when he is
just averaging in measly minutes???
Even if the Llamados won,
there are still rooms for improvement for Tim
Cone and his roster:
SHOCK TROOPERS
UNITE
As long as freshly-traded JC
Intal and Yancy de Ocampo want to
exalt revenge on their former team and as long as the rest of the Llamados get
their act going, then you can bet your balls that B-Meg will face the winner of
the TNT-Barako Bull series in the
finals.
JAMES YAP AND JOE DEVANCE
Here are two players that
seriously need to step up. James Yap
has been lackluster offensive-wise even in the start of the conference while it’s
worse for Joe Devance who has been
quiet since the start of the season. After Bowles they should be the guys that
should carry the load. Is the pressure getting to them? I don’t believe this one
bit.
GET INTO THE
PATTERN
Remember when Macmac Cardona got ejected 70 seconds
after the start of the first quarter of Game Two and got injured leading him to
struggle in Game Two? Fact is, whenever their enemy’s top shooting guard bogs
down, it usually leads to a B-Meg win. Hopefully this won’t be the case but hey…
you can’t argue with the pattern because it was been 3-of-3 as of late.
When the series heads to
Friday, I expect the Kings to adjust. Like Talk N Text, I can’t see the second
seeds faltering twice in consecutive matches. Someone needs to step up for the
Gins and the Gins were working their magic before they changed to their second
stringers.
Maybe Siot Tanquingcen can get Kerby Raymundo to play more than ten
minutes per game?
Game over.

kaya nga kabadtrip kasi di nakita sa laro nila kagabi yung pagiging never say die nila... parang pinapanood lang makapuntos yung kalaban... gawa lang ba to ng mahabang bakasyon? sana sa next game nila hindi na ganon...
