PBA: Caguioa may miss some games

Manila, Philippines – Barangay Ginebra is preparing for the worst possible scenario in the semifinals of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup, and that is playing the first few games of the best-of-five series without superstar guard Mark Caguioa.

Ginebra coach Siot Tanquingcen said yesterday that they will try to get the best possible options for Caguioa, who has a fractured right orbit (eye socket) after he accidentally banged his head on the floor during their playoff game against B-Meg last Friday.

“We’ll get a third opinion,” said Tanquingcen in a phone interview with the Bulletin. “One doctor wants to wait for another week for the swelling to subside, while another doctor wants to have a surgery now. So we’re looking for another possible option for Mark.”

“But we’re preparing for the worst possible scenario. If Mark can’t play, we can’t do anything about it,” added Tanquingcen.

Caguioa accidentally fell on the floor and sustained two cuts on his right eyelid when his left foot got entangled with the right leg of B-Meg center Rafi Ravis midway in the third period. He was taken to the locker room, and later at the Cardinal Santos Hospital in San Juan.

The Kings won the game, 9384, to clinch an outright semifinal berth as the No. 2 seed team, and will either face B-Meg or Meralco in the next round. The semifinals will start either Sunday or Wednesday next week.
