Though now on the fringe of elimination, the Meralco Bolts insist they’re not about to give up.

“The plan is to save our conference. We will do whatever it takes,” said Meralco coach Ryan Gregorio on the eve of their match with Barangay Ginebra Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

While the Bolts fight for survival, the Kings, on the other hand, aim to sustain their push to the top as they square off at 7:30 p.m. at the resumption of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup elimination round at the Big Dome.

The Kings are taking the Bolts with a lot of caution while well aware of the latter’s situation at 1-4.

“We have to play with a lot of energy and hustle as for sure they would be playing with a sense of urgency,” said Ginebra coach Siot Tanquingcen.

Gregorio, meanwhile, stresses they’re not throwing in the white towel yet.

“We haven’t gotten a good rhythm yet. We worked extremely hard to prepare against Ginebra, and hopefully it’s enough,” said Gregorio.

The articulate Meralco coach admits finding the right adjustment has been their big problem.

“We know that the road to find the right chemistry can be arduous but are determined find it right away to fast track the whole process,” Gregorio said.

At 3-1, Tanquingcen claims they’re also still working to build good chemistry.

“Malayo pa. Hindi kami pwedeng ma-satisfy kung ano ang ipinapakita namin ngayon. We still have a lot to improve on,” said Tanquingcen.

The Ginebra bench chieftain, however, didn’t hide elation at their acquisition of new import Jackson Vroman.

Vroman and the Ginebra locals complemented each other well as the Kings repulsed the Powerade Tigers, 105-96, Sunday at the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo.

Mark Caguioa, in particular, dished out an inspired game playing alongside Vroman, coming through with his biggest output – 31 points – in a game in four years versus the Tigers.

“It’s natural that the locals’ morale goes high when they see their import doing a lot of
things,” said Tanquingcen to explain Caguioa’s fired-up game.

“The biggest difference Mark Vroman brought with him is his versatility. He’s shown in this game that he can play inside and outside,” Tanquingcen added.

Vroman, a four-year NBA veteran who later played for the Lebanon national team as a naturalized player, debuted in the local pro league with a remarkable all-around stats of 19 points, 12 rebounds, five blocks, four assists and three steals against three turnovers in only 35 minutes of action.
