THE PBA Governors Cup is still months away, but Barangay Ginebra has already gained the commitment of former Saigon Heat import Dior Lowhorn to reinforce the Gin Kings in the season-ending tournament, sources said.
Listed at 6-7 in the US, Lowhorn was among the top performers in the Asean Basketball League this season with averages of 26.7 points and 8.42 rebounds with the lowly Heat.
However, Lowhorn reportedly suffered a knee injury in a game against San Miguel Beer last April 17 and has since returned to the US for treatment and therapy.
The Heat, in fact, had to get a league waiver to bring in Justin Howard as a replacement since it was already past the deadline for import changes in the regional basketball league.
But sources said Lowhorn had already committed to play for the Gin Kings in the PBA before he returned to the US for treatment.
As early as May 9, San Miguel Corp. director Noli Eala has already announced on his Twitter account that he has already secured a commitment from an import to suit up for Ginebra in the Governors Cup.
Lowhorn had a stellar career at University of San Francisco (USF) where he broke the school record of NBA legend Bill Russell as the fastest to reach 1,000 points.
Undrafted in the 2010 draft, the 25-year-old also had stints in leagues in Belgium, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Venezuela and Ukraine where he had the chance to team up with Fil-Am Stanley Pringle.
