Hurting Tenorio promises to give all in semis duel with Talk ‘N Text
MANILA – Barangay Ginebra San Miguel’s LA Tenorio may be bothered by different injuries but that would not stop him from playing his best when their best-of-five semifinals series against the Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters start on Friday.
“Going into this game, bumalik yung elbow injury ko. Tinamaan ako last game. Hindi ko na sinabi pero masakit talaga. I can’t overextend my elbow,” revealed Tenorio in an exclusive interview with [b]Solar Sports Desk.
Ginebra’s chief playmaker clearly struggled in their thrilling 81-79 quarterfinals victory over the Rain or Shine ElastoPainters Monday night, while only scoring two points on a dismal 1 of 12 shooting.
Failing to make a single three-point basket in five tries, while only shooting 14.3% from the two-point territory, Tenorio still tried to make his presence felt in the do-or-die game that saw him log a total of 40 minutes.
Another injury scare happened in the final quarter as Tenorio tried to chase a Rain or Shine player, but he fell to the floor hurting his groin.
“Ah oo, groin lang yun. Tomorrow’s my checkup so hopefully ok naman,” stated Tenorio.
“Kanina I just tried to find ways para manalo yung team -- like defend, get the rebound, orchestrate the play or be a decoy,” said Tenorio, who contributed six rebounds, three assists and a steal.
“But I have to also admit that they played good defense on me. Si Gabe (Norwood), Chris (Tiu) and Paul Lee. I have to give credit to Rain or Shine also. Pero ayun nga, hindi ako maka-shoot kasi masakit talaga,” he reasoned.
The veteran guard also told Solar Sports Desk that the pain in his elbow is being caused by a recurring injury that dates back to his last playing year with the Alaska Aces.
Asked if coach Alfrancis Chua was aware of the injury, Tenorio replied in the affirmative.
“Oo, alam niya. Actually, yesterday I didn’t practice because of this,” he stated.
But the warrior that he is, Tenorio still played for almost the entire game. And he promised that he would bounce back with a better game in their series-opener against the Tropang Texters on Friday.
“I still have three days to rest my injuries. And we’re now here in the semis, so expect us to give all our best against Talk ‘N Text.”
Tenorio is in the lead for the Best Player of the Conference award having garnered 28.6 statistical points after the elimination round of the 2013 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
Alaska rookie Calvin Abueva of the semis-bound Aces currently trails Tenorio with 28.2 SPs. While GlobalPort’s Gary David (26.0), Air 21’s Nino Canaleta (24.9) and Rain or Shine’s Paul Lee (24.7) round up the top five.

basta healthy na ang mga players natin sa semis... malaki tyansa natin sa tnt... the good thing about this series is they are not taller team compared to ROS and sanmig..
