Tenorio's hurting arm won't keep him away from playing in semis

LA Tenorio isn’t making a big fuss out of it, but he’s playing with a hurting right arm since the start of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup playoffs.

The Ginebra guard suffered the injury during the Kings’ quarterfinals match-up against Rain or Shine when he was accidentally hit by 7-foot-2 import Bruno Sundov.

And while the pain wouldn’t go away, Tenorio has managed to play through it, helping the Kings eliminate the Elasto Painters, and just last Friday, played a key role in the team’s rousing 104-81 blowout of Talk `N Text in Game 1 of their semifinals series at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

“Noong Saturday ito sa Game 1 (quarterfinals versus Rain or Shine), right arm ko nabangga niya (Bruno Sundov),” recalled the Kings’ court general.

Tenorio said he wouldn’t want to make it as an excuse not to play, considering the Kings are now deep into the playoffs with a chance to make it back to the Finals after two years.

“Actually two years ago na ito, sa Alaska pa ako, recurring injury lang bale. Pag tinamaan babalik-balik siya at sumasakit talaga siya kaya di ko na nasabi last game kasi ayoko maging reason `yun para mawala ako sa game,” said the 28-year-old MVP of last year’s 34th William Jones Cup basketball tournament.

While there’s an option for him to take pain reliever before every game, Tenorio said he’d rather endure the pain.

“No, I don't take (pain reliever). I don't like pain reliever, kasi ayoko umasa sa pain reliever. Tiis-tiis lang muna. Now or never na, but the good thing is, after Sunday's game may break (due to the All-Star week) so tuluy-tuloy ko lang `yung therapy for my elbow para tuluy-tuloy na gumaling,” he added.

Despite playing hurt, Tenorio scored eight points, grabbed four rebounds and issued eight assists in 31 minutes of play to help the Kings take a 1-0 semifinal series lead over the Tropang Texters.
