INJURED CAGUIOA NOT YET READY TO RETURN FOR GINEBRA

MANILA - Fans of Barangay Ginebra San Miguel should not expect star player Mark Caguioa to even suit up Sunday night versus the Meralco Bolts.

The reigning league MVP has a sprained left MCL (Medial Collateral Ligament) during the Kings’ game against the Bolts last March 22.

But a Ginebra insider told Solar Sports Desk that Caguioa has already started with his strengthening program since Monday.

“Strengthening na siya para bumalik yung dating muscle sa nabanat niyang ligament,” said the source.
Ginebra coaching staff still tags Caguioa as day-to-day.

Conservative assessment by those knowledgeable of the 34-year-old star’s injury say that they are not expecting a return even against the Alaska Aces on April 10.

“Yung medyo sure na return niya baka Talk 'N Text na (April 14), pero hindi pa din tiyak yun ha, kasi pinapalakas pa lang tuhod niya eh,” he added.

Right now, Caguioa has been going through some strengthening exercises like squatting, static quads contractions, hamstring holds, hip flexor and half squats.

"Man you guys don't understand I wanna play real bad," read his tweet last night.

Meanwhile, the source also bared that pain is now minimal on Caguioa's knee which is no longer swollen.

“May galaw na lang siya na masakit, kaunting sakit na lang daw parang kurot,” said the source who hinted that as soon as the pain subsides, the three-time PBA scoring champion will immediately join practice.

The Kings who are looking to improve their record to 7-5 are currently riding a five-game winning streak.
