MANILA -- For quite some time, the Barangay Ginebra franchise has been castigated for taking in too many guards in previous trades and past rookie drafts.
Apparently now, that position will be the key to the team’s success against San Mig in their PBA Philippine Cup Final Four series.
In their 97-89 defeat to San Mig Sunday at the MOA Arena, Ginebra coach Ato Agustin and starting point guard LA Tenorio have rued their lack of aggressiveness, specifically in their match-up against the energetic guards of the Mixers.
A former league Most Valuable Player (MVP) and one of the best guards the country has seen, Agustin could not put the blame on his big men Greg Slaughter and Japeth Aguilar as the two have churned out impressive numbers in their domain.
“Sa stats namin wala kami ball movement. Outhustled kami. The whole game, three (fastbreak) attempts lang, two points,” said Agustin.
“Kailangan namin maging aggressive din sila. Imagine Barroca and Melton are playing good. Kailangan namin i-match yung energy nila.”
San Mig clobbered Ginebra in the fastbreak department, 19-2.

The guard line-up of San Mig composed of Mark Barroca, Justin Melton, Peter June Simon and James Yap combined for 63 points, 23 rebounds and  11 assists.
Their counterparts Tenorio, Emman Monfort, Jayjay Helterbrand and Mark Caguioa came up with 37 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists.
“Sila nagdadala ng game and nagkokontrol ng tempo. It’s a big challenge for us. We need to be more aggressive. Inunahan nila kami maging aggressive,” Tenorio said.
“Lumiit yung rotation namin, sumabay kami sa kanila kaya medyo napagod yung dalawang player namin.”
Tenorio also praised San Mig coach Tim Cone for making the right adjustments as the Mixers just came off a blowout loss in Game Two when Ginebra tallied a 93-64 victory last Friday at the Araneta Coliseum.
“Yung three guard line-up nila, yun yung nakita nilang advantage. Gusto niya mag-adjust kami sa kanila. Siguro dapat isipin namin na sila mag-adjust sa amin,” said Tenorio.
Game Four between Ginebra and San Mig is set on Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum.

may time gigil nga si mark kaya minsan turnover pero to be fair with him he was so efficient yesterday. biruin mo naka 21 points sya kahapon pero most of the time he was facilitating.

crtitical talaga yung ending ng 3rd saka start ng 4th quarter dun tayo na dale ng games 1 and 3. doon din tumataas ang confidence ni melton.
