GINEBRA power forward Japeth Aguilar said it's wrong to blame the 'Twin Towers' for the Gin Kings' rebounding woes, adding it will take a total team effort to solve a problem that has proven to be the crack in the PBA Philippine Cup leader's armor.

Despite having 6-11 Greg Slaughter and the 6-foot-9 Aguilar in the paint, Ginebra ranks only sixth in the league this season with a 50.4 per game average and has been contantly beaten off the boards by smaller teams - just as Talk 'N Text did, 49-40, on the way to a 103-79 victory on Sunday.

However, Aguilar insisted it is wrong for Ginebra to entirely rely on him and Slaughter to take care of the boards. The answer, he added, is gang rebounding.

“I don’t know why they point on that. Greg always has double figures on rebounds. Ako minsan nakaka-double figures din ako,” Aguilar said, responding to accusations that the two Ginebra giants are not doing enough to control the boards.

“I think it’s (rebounding) more of a team effort. What more can you ask for if Greg is averaging double figures in rebounds?” added the former Ateneo and Western Kentucky Hilltopper forward.

“If you see the stats sheets of the other teams, their guards have a high (number of) rebounds also. And not only their guards, but shooting guards and small forwards also.”

The stats will bear out Aguilar's claim. Slaughter, the top pick overall in this year's rookie draft, is averaging 10.2 rebounds for the Gin Kings while Aguilar is getting 8.9 rebounds a game.

However, the two had sub-par efforts off the boards against Talk 'N Text, both getting just five each.

Aguilar, who leads Ginebra in scoring with 18.8 points a game, was held to six points in limited action against the Tropang Texters, ending his string of double-figure performances this season.

However, Aguilar vowed to work harder in practice as they prepare for the quarterfinals set to start on Tuesday.

“We need to forget about this game," the high-leaping big man said. "We’re still good pa naman, but we just need to be positive in time for the playoffs."

Total team effort naman talaga ang rebounding, dati nga kahit maliliit tayo naa-outrebound naten ang mga kalaban. tulong tulong lang tsaka dapat matuto din yung mga biggies naten sa pag box out..

kulang lang tayo sa box-out strategy, jan magaling ang ibang team dahil alam nila na malalaki tayo, they focus on boxing out our bigs; attention coaching staff, maybe its time for us to learn how to box out...thanks.

kulang kasi sa gulang yung twin towers natin. anyway, parang pinapalaki lang ng media to, ginagawan ng issue sabagay ginebra kasi, maraming magbabasa.

actually ang kulang tlga sa knila is backs-out. kasi sumasabay sila sa talunan at nagpapatalo sila sa tulakan.

kulang pa sa gulang. andun ung tangkad pro wla ung gulang. at kay japeth kayo tlga ang sisihin jan kasi kayo ang malalaki at napapanood nman ng tao na tlgang hirap kayo sa rebounds lalo na sa defensive rebound

nung wala pa ung malalaki natin nakaka-rebound nman ung maliliit even the small forward bakit ngyon di na nila ginagawa un... wag sana umasa sa malalaki kasi lagi sila bina-box-out...
wag kaagad tatakbo tignan muna bola kung saan pupunta...
