Ginebra gives fans taste of things to come with win over Rain or Shine in tuneup game
MANILA - Barangay Ginebra San Miguel gave hundreds of their die-hard fans a glimpse of their towering and fleet-footed line-up in holding back Rain or Shine, 95-90 in Wednesday morning’s tuneup game  at the Ronac Gym in San Juan.
Coming off the bench, rookie Greg Slaughter dished out a near double-double performance as Ginebra’s 7-foot top overall pick in Sunday’s Rookie Draft scored 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
While those numbers looked pale for a big man, what was impressive about Slaughter was his ability to easily enmesh with Ginebra’s system especially on defense.
In one stretch, Slaughter’s tandem with another new recruit Jay-R Reyes on the defensive end forced the Elasto Painters to attempt from the outside. The gangling duo was also part of the Ginebra unit that established a commanding 40-25 lead middle of the second quarter.
Ginebra finished the half on top, 48-38 with Reyes scoring eight points while a rejuvenated former MVP Jayjay Helterbrand led all scorers with 11 markers.
“With them inside, it made me confident of taking outside shots because with them inside I know we have a big chance of getting those rebounds if ever we miss our outside shots,” said Helterbrand.
Ginebra’s other big man Japeth Aguilar also performed splendidly by playing an agile power forward which he claims to be his preferred position.
Moving in and out of the shaded lane, Aguilar was at the right place at the right time in almost at all times as he as he made crucial baskets on his way to topscoring for Ginebra with 21 points.
“I can play three, four or five but I’m more comfortable playing the four spot,” said Aguilar.
The Elasto Painters tried to fight back as they were able to cut Ginebra’s lead, 89-85 when JR Quinahan and rookie Jeric Teng each converted three-pointers with less than four minutes left in the game.
Aguilar then completed a three-point play before LA Tenorio sank another three-point basket off a kick out pass by Reyes sealed the deal for Ginebra.
Rain or Shine was without with their third pick overall Raymond Almazan who is still playing for Letran in the NCAA.
The scores:
GINEBRA (95) – Aguilar 21, Helterbrand 18, Reyes 12, Ellis 11, Slaughter 10, Tenorio 6, Ababou 5, Urbiztondo 5, Caguioa 3, Mamaril 2, Baracael 2, Monfort 0, Forrester 0.
RAIN OR SHINE (90) – Rodriguez L. 14, Belga 13, Arana 13, Teng 8, Quinahan 7, Uyloan 6, Lee 5, Tiu 5, Jaime 4, Cruz 4, Ibanez 3, Matias 3, Tang 2, Norwood 2, Rodriguez G. 2, Chan 0, Nuyles 0.

this! mas lalong tataas ang kumpyansa ng mga shooters naten na tumira ng tumira kasi kahit magmintis sila may rerebound pero mas maganda kung bibigyan din nila ng mga set plays yung mga biggies naten..

C - GS

Sampayan brigade! pwedeng pantapat sa SanMig

GS vs YDO
Reyes vs Sanggalang
Japeth vs Ping/JDV

di na tayo mismatch sa kanila
