LA Tenorio sees imposing Ginebra defense with tallest frontline of Greg Slaughter, Japeth Aguilar

Once a team that relied heavily on its guards, Barangay Ginebra San Miguel will trot out the tallest starting frontcourt in the league with top overall pick Greg Slaughter and high-flying forward Japeth Aguilar.

Slaughter stands seven feet tall while Aguilar measures 6-foot-9, giving the Gin Kings two skyscrapers to man the paint.

They also acquired another athletic big man, Jay-R Reyes, in a trade with the Meralco Bolts, completing their offseason buildup for their frontline.

“Tingin ko, mas sa defense yung magiging improvement namin because of Greg na magaling na post defender,” said Ginebra star point guard LA Tenorio. “Si Japeth naman magaling sa blocks and second defense tapos si Jay-R mahaba rin. Malaking tulong sila sa amin, particularly sa defense.”

The entry of the big men will also give the Ginebra guard corps more confidence to launch bombs from outside.

“Makakatulong yun sa kumpiyansa namin dahil even if sumablay yung tira, malaki yung chance na makuha namin yung rebound dahil lumaki na kami ngayon,” he said.

Ginebra is known as a run-and-gun team, but the entry of bigger players means that the team has also installed plays to take advantage of their edge in the paint.

“Nagdadagdag kami ng mga plays ngayon para sa kanila,” said Tenorio. “Pero hindi rin naman problema sa kanila yung larong takbuhan dahil sina Japeth and Jay-R tumatakbo rin naman. Even si Greg dahil almost two weeks na sya nag-eensayo nasasanay na sa laro namin.”

Sabi ko nga mas makakatakbo na ang ginebra ngayon dahil madodominate na ng ginebra yung rebounds, dun naman nagsisimula ang running game kapag nakuha mo yung rebound.. tanda nyo nung import naten si CA44 mas gumana ang running game naten dahil may nakakakuha ng rebounds. excited to see my team sa darating na confy.

pero sayang pa rin dahil na-cut si Usita, reserved center yan pag si Mamaril ay wala na sa "sarili" niya....or even si JR, GS ay hindi effective...but it is still okay for me...pero sayang talaga..

ung talagang pumoposte ala eric menk noon...
sayang nga ung usita.... pero di natin alam ang gusto ng coaching staff, magtiwala na lang tayo sa kanila....
