Ginebra, Air 21 tussle to end losing skids
Air 21 and Barangay Ginebra San Miguel tangle on Wednesday at Cuneta Astrodome to try to end their respective losing streaks in the PBA Governors’ Cup.
The Express (1-4) have lost their last three games while the Gin Kings (1-3) have lost their last two assignments.
The two teams clash at 7:30 p.m. after the opening encounter between the GlobalPort Batang Pier and the San Mig Coffee Mixers.
Worrisome for Air 21 has been the recent performance of import Zach Graham, who has managed to put up just 18.5 points in his last two outings. The Express will be up against a Ginebra side aching to bounce back from a heartbreaking 102-99 defeat at the hands of the Alaska Aces last Sunday.
KG Canaleta and Mike Cortez have been carrying the cudgels for Air 21, which will be tested by bullstrong Ginebra import Dior Lowhorn. The hulking Gin Kings reinforcement is coming off his best performance of the tournament against the Aces, and is expected to open up shots for Ginebra hotshots LA Tenorio and Mark Caguioa.
In the first game, both GlobalPort (2-2) and San Mig Coffee (1-3) are also aiming to bounce back from losses in each of their last games.
The Batang Pier fell to Talk ‘N Text last Sunday, while the Mixers lost to Petron last Saturday.
The match will feature a marquee battle between dynamic imports of Markeith Cummings of GlobalPort and Marqus Blakely of San Mig Coffee. Sharpshooters Gary David and James Yap will also renew their perimeter rivalry on the court.
