Barangay Ginebra San Miguel is back in the PBA finals, but not before going through the wringer.
The Gin Kings had to win no less than four do-or-die games in the playoffs against powerhouse teams Rain or Shine and Talk ‘N Text to book their seat in the championship round of the Commissioner’s Cup.
And Ginebra had to do it minus superstar Mark Caguioa, who was sidelined for most of the team’s games after a knee injury sidelined him midway through the eliminations.
Leading the charge for the Gin Kings was star guard LA Tenorio, who played his finest game of the tournament in the semifinals decider Sunday with 28 points, six rebounds, and five assists.
Tenorio believes all the trials the team went through has toughened them for the championship round.
“Dahil sa hirap na pinagdaanan namin, I think we’re ready for the finals,” Tenorio told InterAKTV in an exclusive interview.
But awaiting the Gin Kings in the finals is Tenorio’s old team Alaska, the tournament’s top seed that has been in the driver’s seat for most of the Commissioner’s Cup. The Aces dispatched defending champion San Mig Coffee in four games to reach the finals.
Despite the odds, Tenorio believes Ginebra will be ready.
“Yung mga hirap na pinagdaanan namin yun ang nagpalakas sa amin para makarating sa finals,” he said.
