DAVAO CITY — Barangay Ginebra San Miguel forward Chris Ellis is only in his first year in the PBA, but he has a keen sense of league history.
In his debut in the slam dunk contest on Friday, Ellis said he is hoping to pay tribute to one of the league’s legendary high-flyers, Samboy Lim, who now serves as Ginebra team manager.
“I wanted to give him a simple tribute by wearing his old jersey, but we don’t have time to do it now,” added Ellis, saying he doesn’t have Lim’s old No. 9 San Miguel Beer uniform.
Instead, Ellis will just have to find some other way to do it. He said he has several things up his sleeve, but he ruled out jumping over people
“I don’t want to risk doing stuff like that,” said Ellis, whose Ginebra team is embroiled in a tough Commissioner’s Cup semifinals battle with Talk ‘N Text. “But I will try to be creative as much as I can.”
