GINEBRA'S ABILITY TO OVERCOME TWICE-TO-BEAT DISADVANTAGE A CAUSE OF CONCERN FOR GUIAO

MANILA - Except for their slow first half start, Rain or Shine head coach Yeng Guiao believes that the ElastoPainters played well against the Meralco Bolts Wednesday night.

“My boys played good in the second half, yung first half masama talaga,” said Guiao, who watched the game at the security room after being ejected in the first quarter.

At the same time, Guiao stressed that it is not their team’s philosophy to intentionally drop games.

“Hindi namin pinipili kung sino ang kalaban namin, gusto sana naming manalo. I was ejected very early in the first quarter,” he added while denying speculations by many that Rain or Shine intentionally dropped the game to arrange a quarterfinals showdown with the undermanned and injury-plagued Barangay Ginebra squad.

“Hindi pwedeng sabihin na madaling kalaban yung Ginebra, before yung back-to-back losses nila ang ganda ng ratsada nila so anytime may potensyal silang bumalik,” Guiao stressed.

“Pero kung mayruong team na kayang bumalik at ma-overcome ang isang twice to beat advantage… Ginebra na
yun.”

The Pampanga vice-governor then went to blame bad breaks and poor officiating in the loss.

“We always feel bad when we lose, especially if it’s losing on the breaks. We thought we had the chance to win the game if only we had the right calls coming our way,” Guiao observed.

“May mga controversial calls that went against us, I think for us the best thing to do about this is forget it and start preparing for the Saturday game,” Guiao added.

As for his message to fans of Ginebra who obviously are frustrated at Rain or Shine’s loss, Guiao said: “We will try to win against them, pasensyahan. I’m sure they will try to win against us. Ganito talaga, bakbakan sa PBA. Too bad for them, kasi may twice to beat advantage kami.”

Meanwhile, Rain or Shine hardnosed guard Ryan Arana supported the claim of their coach.

“Hindi kami maglalaglag ng laro, bonus namin nakasalalay dun. Saka ang hirap kayang kalaban ng Ginebra,” Arana said.

“Hangga’t maari nga gusto namin, Ginebra ang kalaban sa finals kung papalarin kaming uusad dun,” added the wily guard.
