'Big Macs' Macklin and Mac Baracael save Ginebra from endgame collapse

BARANGAY Ginebra turned to Vernon Macklin to avoid a late-game collapse and escape with a 91-90 victory over Meralco on Sunday night to clinch a quarterfinal berth in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Mac Baracael also put on a torrid fourth-quarter show, but it was the Kings import who preserved the victory by scoring the go-ahead basket with less than eight seconds remaining as the Kings tied the day’s earlier winner Petron with a 7-5 slate for a share of third place.

The Gin Kings also extended their winning streak to six games, continuing to win without injured superstar Mark Caguioa.

The Bolts fell to 6-6.
