This is one rather disappointing news to the Barangay throng.
Top local gunner Mark Caguioa will be out for at least one week.
Tests done on Caguioa’s injured left knee Saturday afternoon showed that he suffered a sprained left MCL (medial cruciate ligament).
Because of this, attending physician Dr. Raul Canlas will place an immobilizer on the knee to prevent the injury from becoming worse due to wrong movement.
Canlas, who diagnosed the injury to be a grade 1 MCL sprain, ordered Caguioa to rest for a week and come back to him for re-evaluation.
“Pag ganun ang kaso, 1 week rest tapos day-to-day ang status ng return niya,” said a Barangay Ginebra San Miguel insider.
Caguioa’s 23 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1 steal per game will surely be missed by Ginebra, which is currently on a three-game win run and making a strong bid for a solid placing going into the playoffs.
“Sayang talaga, kasi instant 23 points yun sa opensa namin, kailangan na lang ngayon magdasal ang mga fans ng team for his quick recovery tapos mag step up yung ibang locals namin,” said the same source.
Barako Bull will be the first team to face the Caguioa-less Kings on Palm Sunday.
Luckily for Ginebra, the team takes a 9-day break after that game against the Energy Cola. The crowd darlings have no game scheduled during Holy Week and will only be back on April 3. They’re hoping Caguioa will be on active duty by then as the Kings definitely need his production when they take on the streaking Air21 Express. (SBadua)
