With Mark Caguioa out, LA Tenorio looks to carry bigger load for Ginebra

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel superstar Mark Caguioa will miss some games after suffering a mild medial collateral ligament injury on his knee.

With their top gun out, the Gin Kings will rely on point guard LA Tenorio to carry a bigger load for the squad.

“Kinausap ako ni Coach [Alfrancis Chua] na kailangang mag-step up,” Tenorio told InterAKTV in a telephone interview. “So starting tomorrow, I will be back as a more offensive-minded player, katulad ng role ko dati sa Alaska.”

Caguioa injured his knee Friday night against Meralco, and will miss the Gin Kings’ outing on Sunday against Barako Bull.

Since his entry to the Ginebra fold at the beginning of the season, Tenorio has embraced his role as a playmaker, setting up Caguioa and the Gin Kings’ other scorers.

But with the temporary absence of The Spark, the Gin Kings will need Tenorio to be more aggressive.

But Tenorio said he shouldn’t be the only one stepping up in Caguioa’s absence.

“Kailangan lahat kami. Si Caguioa napakalaking bagay at walang puwedeng pumantay sa kanya so dapat kaming lahat mag-step up,” said Tenorio.
