New import Vernon Macklin will inspire Ginebra locals, says coach Alfrancis Chua

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel was visibly lacking in energy when it dropped its first three matches in the Commissioner’s Cup.

But coach Alfrancis Chua said that new import Vernon Macklin will be able to help out the team in that department.

“Mas gaganahan ang mga locals sa kanya. Mas may energy ito maglaro,” said Chua.

Macklin was a second round draft pick of the Detroit Pistons in 2011, and saw 23 games for the team. A solid inside player, he stands 6-foot-10 and has a 7-foot-4 wingspan.

He replaces Herbert Hill, who provided solid numbers but failed to provide dynamism to match the Gin Kings’ style.

Macklin arrived Monday and immediately worked out with his new squad. He will make his debut on Saturday in the Gin Kings’ out-of-town game against the Alaska Aces.
