V-Mack to the rescue?

Ginebra is starting to get a glimmer of hope with the arrival of their newest import Vernon “V-Mack” Macklin.

Tuesday morning at the Xavier Gym, Macklin finally banged bodies with Ginebra’s resident post players Billy Mamaril, Rico Maierhofer and Rudy Hatfield and came out unscathed.

“He looks like the kind of guy that our team needs. He’s big and strong, inside presence, deep sealer, he looks like a monster off the boards. I’m pretty excited to see once he gets his legs in,” said Hatfield.

Though Macklin is not the monster-type of inside player, Ginebra’s latest American recruit showed flashes of brilliance in scoring inside and getting rebounds.

“Yeah definitely, I go for a lot of tip dunks, my legs are not just 100 percent today… That’s why I missed the tip dunk… But I’m gonna go for more dunks to get the crowd and my teammates up,” said Macklin.

Former import Herbert Hill was sent home and left for the US Monday morning after failing to impress management and coaching staff of the league’s crowd darling.

“It’s a tough team to play for. Well, what can I do? I play my hardest for my teammates, but it just didn’t work out,” Hill told Philippine sports website Spin.ph

A 52nd overall pick of Detroit in the 2011 draft, the 26-year-old Macklin played 23 games with the Pistons averaging 2 pts and a rebound in nearly six minutes of action per game.

Macklin and the Ginebras will have their hands full as they take on undefeated team Alaska in an out-of-town game tomorrow in Tubod, Lanao Del Norte.

“I just want everybody, my teammates to know that I’ll keep playing hard. I’ll be the guy, who will go out there and give my 110 percent. I’ll play hard for the fans,”

The Aces are currently on top with a 3-0 slate, while Ginebra is at the bottom of the standings with its 0-3 tally.
