WHAT THE GAME MEANS:

This series is about a throne, a title, an honor that has nothing to do with a trophy. It’s about the love of the crowd, being the talk of the town, being the darling of the stands. Like in ancient Rome, if you want the adoration of the arena, you have to beat their existing favorites. Rain or Shine may not care much for gate attendance, but whether they admit it or not, they get fueled by their ever-growing fanbase. Best chance to get more? Beat Ginebra.

The Barangay on the other hand? This is what their legend is made of.Another do-or-die. Back once again firmly pushed against the cold, dampwall. Another opportunity to rise and take the long, difficult road to a come-from-behind title. They are all-in on the table, holding pocket 5s against pocket Aces. Tough, but not impossible. Just how they like it.

WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR:



LA Tenorio and Chris Tiu caught up with each other in the AKTV production room after Game 1. Blue Eagles, Gilas heroes, good friends. They small talked about LA’s baby, about when Chris would next visit the house. They traded inside jokes, jabbed each other softly on the arm and were all smiles as Tenorio exited, his interview over, and Tiu sat down, just about to begin his. As we asked them to look into the camera and talk about the first game of their quarterfinal series, all they talked about was each other.

“Chris is back and he’s healthy. Ang laki ng dinala niya sa ROS. They’re much harder to beat now because Chris now understands his teammates and is making plays. Delikado yun.”

“LA will come back after this. He’s a competitor and a great player. After a loss, he’s dangerous.”

Something like that. Friend vs friend. Brother vs brother. Fun stuff.

WHO TO WATCH OUT FOR:



Jeff Chan. He only scored one point in Game 1. One. Single. Point. Doubt that happens again.

Oh, and that other dude. You might’ve heard of him. Mark Cagouia? Yeah he usually doesn’t like being eliminated. A speech doctor examined him recently. He actually, literally, can’t pronounce the word ‘die’.
