Caguioa, Helterbrand to train together in bid to bring back 'Fast and Furious' days

IN a bid to relive their partnership's glorious past, Ginebra dynamic duo Jayjay Helterbrand and Mark Caguioa will try to bring the best out of each other in practice.

Following the disappointing sweep suffered by the Gin Kings at the hands of the Alaska Aces in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals, Helterbrand said he and his longtime backcourt partner have decided to train together again in the buildup for the Governors Cup.

“We've already talked about it. We’re gonna be working out together, try to bring back our old selves,” said Helterbrand about the plans to renew the training partnership that was responsible for the success of the popular 'Fast and Furious’ tandem.

Ginebra won’t start official practice at least until July, or about a month before the season-ending Governors Cup comes off the wraps.

“We decided to do a lot of one-on-one type of things and do our strengthening together,” added the former league MVP. “If we work out together, we’ll be able to motivate each other.

“It’ll make us better. That’s what made us work together really in the past. We’ll try to bring it back."

Injuries have taken a toll on the two Ginebra superstars over the past few years, slowing down what once was considered the top backcourt tandem in the pro league.

“Usually, when I’m healthy, he’s hurt. When he’s healthy, I’m hurt. That’s the way it’s been for the past few years,” said Helterbrand, 34.

By the way, the Ginebra tandem have been inseparable since they first teamed up in 2001.
