A LONE game between Ginebra and new member GlobalPort will kick off the incoming 38th PBA season on Sept. 30 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
A LONE game between Ginebra and new member GlobalPort will kick off the incoming 38th PBA season on Sept. 30 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The PBA has yet to officially release its schedule for the season-opening Philippine Cup, but a source told Malaya Business Insight it has been decided a match between the Kings and Batang Pier should make for a delectable fare for the opening day crowd.
“Ginebra has always been the perennial best draw for the crowds and GlobalPort is the PBA’s newest member and most of the PBA fans would like to see how it plays and matches up against the Kings, so the decision was made,” said the insider.
The match comes after the usual glittering opening ceremonies to be presided over by Commissioner Chito Salud and new chairman Robert Non.
The likes of Anne Curtis and Georgina Wilson are just two of the confirmed bevy of beauties who will act as team muses.
The season-opening tourney carries with it the same successful format of last season won by Talk N Text.
The 10 teams have been divided into two groups with teams in the same group battling each other once and squads from the other bracket twice. The top eight teams advance into the quarterfinals where the top two tote twice-to-beat advantage.
The last eight features No. 1 vs. No. 8 and No. 2 vs. No. 7 with the No. 3 vs. No. 6, No. 4 vs. No. 5 duels as best-of-three affairs. The semifinals and finals are best-of-seven match-ups.
